Hair Transplantation Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
What is hair transplantation?
Hair transplantation is a procedure in which hair is picked from the back of the scalp – where even bald men never lose hair – and transplanted in the balding region. Since the hair from the back of the scalp is genetically programmed to grow for the rest of your life, it grows permanently even when transplanted in the balding region.
Thus, you get completely natural, growing hair that is permanent and an aesthetic, youthful look.
Are the results permanent?
Yes, the results are permanent. The transplanted hair continue to grow for the rest of your life just like normal hair. They require no special maintenance. They can be washed, combed, oiled, cut and styled normally giving excellent aesthetic results.
Is hair transplantation painful?
Hair transplantation is not painful. It may have some extent of discomfort initially but it is so comfortable that while the procedure is going on, you can watch TV, read a book or chat with your friends on the phone.
Is hair transplantation safe? Are there any side effects?
Hair transplantation is absolutely safe and has no major side effects.
Who is an ideal candidate for a hair transplant?
Men who lose hair from the top and frontal portion of the head (termed as Male Pattern Baldness or hereditary balding) are ideal candidates. Women suffering from hair loss can also benefit from hair transplantation.
What is the ideal age for hair transplantation?
Anyone above 21 years of age can undergo hair transplantation, if indicated. There is no age limit; we have carried out transplants even on people above 80 years of age. Your surgeon will evaluate if you are the ideal candidate for hair transplantation.
How is hair transplantation done?
The hair on the sides and back of the scalp are permanent in nature and even bald men don’t lose hair in these regions. In hair transplantation, hair is removed from these regions either in a strip or in small groups and transplanted into the balding region of the head. Once this is done, the transplanted hair continues to grow normally for the rest of your life.
What is FUE and how it is different from the Strip method?
FUE (follicular unit extraction) and strip method are different procedures but the final result is exactly the same. The placement of the grafts (hair) and the final aesthetic look of the patient is also same. The only difference is in the removal of the grafts – in FUE grafts are removed one by one or in small groups whereas in strip method, an entire strip of hair is removed.
How many grafts will be required in my case?
A hair transplant surgeon can advise you about the number of grafts after a personal evaluation of your case. This depends on how big your balding area is and the density of hair in your donor area (back of the scalp).
How long does the hair transplantation procedure take?
Hair transplantation is a day-care procedure. You arrive at the clinic in the morning and by evening, you can return home on your own. No admission is required.
How soon can I get back to work after hair transplantation?
You can easily resume work on the next day. No hassles of taking a long leave from your work. This adds to the convenience of the procedure.
When can I see the results after hair transplantation?
The newly transplanted hair is visible even on the day of the surgery. The hair starts growing gradually and you can notice the difference month after month. For the hair to grow to your normal full length, it takes around 9 to 12 months.
How is Hair Transplant better than other options for balding individuals?
Hair transplant gives you a completely natural look; the transplanted hair is permanent and it grows normally for the rest of your life. Other techniques, such as hair weaving, extensions, bonding, are only artificial and temporary; they often result in damage to your existing hair.
Is one hair transplant enough or does the procedure have to be repeated?
Hair transplant is generally a one-time procedure. However, if the person has a larger area to be covered which requires more than 2500 grafts, this cannot be achieved in one sitting.
Is hair transplantation an expensive procedure?
It is a myth that hair transplantation is expensive – consider it as a lifelong investment made for oneself. In order to bust the myth of it being an expensive procedure we have introduced a special offer of hair transplant for unlimited number of hair at a fixed price and without any hidden costs by FUT method.
Cosmetic Surgery Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Will it Hurt?
During the procedure, anesthesia ensures that you’re comfortable and feel no pain. If general anesthesia is used, you’ll even sleep through the entire operation. After surgery, any pain or discomfort you may experience can usually be controlled through medication and will usually subside within a matter of days.
How soon can I get back to work?
It depends greatly on the procedure, but on average, most plastic surgery patients are back to work within 7-10 days
Will everyone know?
Usually not. Good plastic surgery enhances your looks naturally and often goes unnoticed. Friends may ask if you’ve been on a vacation, a new diet or exercise regime but typically, they won’t know unless you tell them.
Will there be scars?
Yes. Will they be noticeable? Probably not. Your surgeon will make every effort to keep scars as minimal as possible and try to hide them in the natural lines and creases of your skin. For majority of procedures your scars will fade over time and become barely noticeable. However ultimate quality of scars would depend upon healing quality of your skin.
How long does it take?
Not as long as you would think. Some procedures can be performed on an outpatient basis, require no overnight stay and usually take only a few hours. You’ll probably have to come in several hours before surgery to recover from the anesthesia. By then you’ll be back on your feet and a friend or relative will escort you home to recover in your own bed. However some reconstructive surgery procedures can involve long hospitalization.
What do I do next?
If after going through this brochure you’d like to find out more about plastic surgery, a consultation with a qualified surgeon is the next logical step. It’s a quick, easy way to find out what plastic surgery can do for you.
What is the kind of sedation / anaesthesia used?
Many of the procedures can be done on an out patient basis under local anesthesia with sedation. However, major procedures may require general or regional anaesthesia with a one or two day stay in hospital.
What is the cost?
Each treatment is unique and is customized to the patient. The cost of a surgery depends on the time involvement and the nature of the surgery. This makes it very difficult for us to publish any package rates on the website. We would only be able to give you the cost for the procedures during consultation.
